I’m a 5-10k runner, more 5-8k if I’m entirely honest. This year, I want to push myself and see what I can achieve. My goal is to do a half marathon in 2019, so I’ve signed up for a 10 mile race. I should point out I’ve never run 10 miles in my life, but I’m getting close to it.
I’ve done 5 miles a good few times, so 10 miles is well above my usual run distance. I do think a 10 mile race will be a nice stepping stone for me, to get closer to my half marathon goal. I figure if I can do 10 miles, I’ll be able to build on that and do 13 miles soon enough. Haha that’s my naive opinion anyway
The race is on Feb 3rd. That’s less than 2 weeks away. Two weeks ago, I ran 8.5 miles with a friend and last week, that same friend ran 9.5 miles with me. I found it a long slog and miles 5-8 seemed to drag on forever. I kept looking at my watch to see the distance, which didn’t seem to go up. I did it though. I wasn’t fast but I didn’t stop. I didn’t walk.
I will be honest, I’ll be happy when the race is over as I’m thinking about it a lot. If I finish it, which I hopefully will, I know I will be on cloud 9 for a week. Well maybe two weeks 😉 as it’s a distance that I never thought I’d be able to run
